Your guide to choosing sunglasses

June 17, 2010 - One Response

Sunglasses are undoubtedly one of the most important fashion accessories. The style of your sunglasses should be adapted to the shape of your face, your own personal taste and, why not, the current trends.

Here are some tips that will help you choose the best possible pair of sunglasses.

Protection from UV

UV rays are a major risk factor when it comes to the health of your eyes. A darker tint doesn’t mean superior protection from UV rays. You should always check the specifications on the label and choose the highest rate of protection available.

Materials

Since you don’t want your sunglasses broken a weak after you’ve bought them you should always check to make sure they are sturdy. Generally speaking, heavier glasses indicate good quality.

Picking the tint

Tint is all about taste. There are so many options available, it would be a shame not to pick something unique. You should however try before you buy as some tints affect brightness and glare in an unpleasant way to some.

Polarized or not?

Polarized sunglasses are usually the obvious as they reduce glare from water, glass or any other surface that reflects light in an unpleasant manner to the naked eye.

The dangers of outside tanning and beds are becoming more and more obvious. The exposure to ultra violet rays has been linked to the majority of skin cancers. But if you’re a big fan of tanned skin yet you don’t want to damage your health you should know there is a good alternative.

Sunless tanners are a safe and cost effective way of getting a perfect tan in the comfort of your own home. I know that you’re going to say that sunless tanning lotion give your skin a nasty, orange look. But luckily, the latest developments in cosmetics have brought along products that can mach a natural tan without exposing you to the damaging effects of UV rays.

The smell of these scent tanning lotions has also evolved and has nothing in common with the nasty smell that some early self tanners used to have. You can now have a tanning lotion with neutral odour or one that smells like cinnamon for example. The choices are endless. A lot of products also have a pleasant moisturizing effect on the skin so you’re not only getting a beautiful, glowing tan but you’re also enjoying the benefits of a moisturizing lotion.

So if you’re tired of getting sun burns or you’re worried about the dangerous side effects of UV rays go and buy a self tanning lotion. Just make sure it’s good quality product that has been recently released on the market. This ensures that you will get a beautiful, natural looking tan.

Dangerous cosmetics

Most make up and cosmetic products are made of complicated chemical combinations. Ingredients can be syntactical chemicals, natural or a combination of the two and often come from various parts of the world. The ingredients used in cosmetics are regulated in most countries around the globe but there is no absolute guarantee that cosmetic products are safe for every individual as they have often proved to be sources for unlikely allergies . But some cosmetics contain  dangerous chemicals that went overlooked or worse still, were fraudulently added to the mixture in order to keep production costs low and profits for the manufacturer high. This often happens with cheap products of doubtful origins.

In the US, cosmetic products are regulated by the FDA. But even this organization is powerless when it comes to stopping some potentially dangerous products from hitting the market  .As a result of this,  violations of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act only surface after some products cause harm.

Some cosmetics manufacturing companies have decided to introduce lines of “all natural” or organic cosmetics. But even one hundred percent organic and natural products can cause individual allergies and side effects for some.

Cosmetics manufacturers are not under the same pressure as food and drug companies from authorities and thus some smaller manufacturers sacrifice the well being of the consumer so that they can increase their own profits. This is why it’s so important for consumers to choose only high quality, brand name products as their manufacturers also have a reputation to defend and can’t afford to release dangerous products on the market just for the quick cash.

Mascara – tips and tricks for beautiful eyelashes

June 1, 2010 - Leave a Response

Mascara is probably one of the oldest makeup products known to man. It dates back thousands of years ago and it still serves its original purpose, that of coloring eye lashes. But modern mascara retains none of its original components. Originally made from soot or charcoal, it now contains only natural and inorganic pigments. Carbon black for black pigments, ultramarine blue provides blue colors and iron oxide for brown.

A few coats of mascara can work wonders for your eye lashes and for the overall look of your face. The brand is not important, as long as it’s a safe product. The thing that matters more for most women when it comes to buying mascara is the type of brush. And manufacturers are always coming up with a variety of products that are sure to satisfy even the most demanding costumers. Mascara is usually applied to the top and bottom of lashes and reapplied several times.

When applying mascara, you should first brush on an oil free powder foundation over the lashes and then apply your favorite product. When the first coat dries apply a second one. This will provide a longer lasting, thicker look.

Waterproof cosmetics shouldn’t be used on a daily basis. They’re quite hard to remove and can even pull out your lashes. Use a cotton swab that is dampened with warm water. Put Vaseline or baby oil on the end and rub to remove from lashes. You should never use soap as it can get in your eyes and give you a nasty irritation. Waterproof products can damage eyelashes making them look thinner and sparser.

Makeup specialists recommend that you should pick a mascara color that is three shades darker than your natural hair color. However, don’t be afraid to experiment with different products and colors to find which are best suited to you. Remember mascara only looks unreal when it isn’t done right.

How to pick your signature perfume

May 30, 2010 - Leave a Response

In today’s world it’s important to separate yourself from the pack, to stand out in a distinctive manner. You can accomplish this in many ways but a distinctive fragrance will immediately identify you to the people you come in contact with everyday. Scent is the sense most strongly linked to memory and by associating yourself with a wonderful fragrance you can be sure that the connection won’t be easily forgotten.

Figuring out which scent best matches your style and personality is not as difficult as most people believe. A large part of the equation is a simple “smell test”. Go into a perfumery, and try on a number of different perfumes. Pick one that you like and give it a trial period. Wear it to work, out to clubs, and wherever you have the chance to interact with others. Don’t mention the fact that you’re wearing a new perfume. Let people share their opinions in order to make sure you get an honest feedback.

When picking a perfume you should also consider other things then the smell itself. Price is important as you don’t want to get addicted to a fragrance that you can only afford to buy once every two years. And remember that you don’t have to settle on the first perfume that you lay your hands on. Don’t be afraid to test and experiment with different options and to make choosing a signature perfume a fun process.
